mid week high five

mid week high five

i snuck out of work yesterday to run five miles before the sun went down.

have i mentioned that i am SO ready for daylight savings?

SO READY.

i don’t like running at night because the cracks in the sidewalk become the freaking mariana trench, and drivers stop actually watching out for pedestrians.  i live in a very upper-crust neighborhood (i should amend this to say, i rent out a converted garage in an upper-crust neighborhood filled with obnoxious and self-indulged rich people), and when i run at night, my inner cleveland comes out.

at least i burn calories when i lift my arm to throw up the bird.

and yelling exercises the diaphragm, right?

anywho, to avoid all that painful night-running, i snuck out of work at 4:15, so that i could drive to a trail and squeeze in an hour before the sun set.

i have to say, i LOVE living in california.  i grew up in cleveland, and, while i honestly prefer the blue collar bud light culture of the midwest, california is BEAUTIFUL.  like, vacation beautiful.  i lost 20 pounds when i moved out to california because i saw sunny days like an ohioan.  if it was nice, i just HAD to be outside.  the thing is, in  california, EVERY day is nice.  so i started working out.  a lot.  without actually meaning to.

at about mile 4.5 last night, i snapped a few photos of the trail by my house (garage).

tonight, i’m off to the fundraiser for the bursar’s non-profit foundation.  earlier this week, i dropped several pretty pennies on birthday gifts for kids at homeless shelters, and last night, in a flurry of tape, scissors, paper, and wine, i wrapped them all up.  the event is at an art gallery, and i am really excited to have a friday night out.  between working full time, studying in school full time, and training for a marathon, my life has become rather … i don’t get out much.  friday night out with the bursar!

happy friday everyone!

  1. Wow! You’re from Cleveland? I’m in cleveland right now….and let me tell you, I’m jealous of you. I wish I could sneak out of my work/lab early today for a 5 miler, but I think its more likely going to be a dark/night run after work instead.

  2. Good for you sneaking out to get the run in daylight — I run early in the morning because I hate to deal with cars, it’s not light out, but at least I’m alone (and I run in the street so I don’t worry too much about the cracks! :) ) Have a wonderful time tonight!! Happy Friday!

    • lol, THANKS! i go back and forth on what time of the day i like to run better. sometimes I’m really into running super early in the morning. it’s nice to get it outta the way and i like the dopamine cruise in the am at work :) but SOMETIMES the after work run feels like therapy. or boxing. and my feet are fists and the pavement is that awful coworker. know what i mean?! have a great friday too! HAPPY WEEKEND!!

  3. I just moved to San Diego county from VT and I totally feel the same way. My boyfriend and I are riddled with guilt if we don’t go out and do something when its nice… which, like you said… is every day! But hey, I’m not complaining, and from the looks of your run, I’m sure you’re not either!

    • not at all! all this sunshine has really helped me stay in shape (erhm, get in shape). i love it here! but ive definitely turned into a sissy. i wear my intense north face down jacket when it’s 43 degrees and freeeeeezing. (that same jacket used to survive iowa winters. sigh.)
